For memebers interested in R-link performance and technical characteristics
(on my request I got this information from renault technical section)

MPEG4 SP/ASP / H263 Decode (up to WVGA 30fps 4Mbps)
=> YES (Yes, SP up to WVGA. ASP only tested with variable bitrate with peaks of > 4 MBPS)
File extension can be .mp4. Some .avi files encoded with the mp4 format can be readen (compatibility with Divx or Xvic file is not sure).
H264 BL Decode (up to WVGA 30fps 4Mbps)
YES (Yes, but not smooth if it contains an audio stream or if profile level exceeds 3.2)
File extension can be .3gpp (video files coming from smartphones).
WMV9 SP/MP/AP / VC1 Decode (up to WVGA 30fps 4Mbps)
YES (YES, but most WMV’s only work after several retries once. Logging shows that there is something wrong with the color format)
File extension can be .wmv.
And the system cannot display videos for which :
— The refreshing speed is more than 30 images per second, or
— The output is more than 4Mo per second, or
— Resolution is more than 800 points x 480 points
And files of more than 4Go cannot be readen. Subtitles cannot ben readen.
Moreover, some files which have specifics restrictions cannot be readen.
And the system is going directly to the next video if he cannot read one.
Moreover:
R-link software upgrade (if any in the future) is free of charge.
Notification about upgrade (if introduced) will be find in R-link and in My renault page (R-link tab).
Maps — update 4 times a year (chargable). No info about the price. Once, within 90 day period after R-link activation maps update is free of charge.
Packs (and applications) prices are determined by producers and renault (as they answered) has no influence on pricing policy.
